What is it like to work with me?

Welcome to Therapy

Starting, or returning to therapy can feel daunting. You might worry about what to say or whether you’re “doing therapy right.” It's a really common concern, and you aren’t alone. You don’t need to have it all figured out, and we’ll  move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

How I Work

I see therapy as needing to be tailored to each individual client; there's no ‘one size fits all’ approach here. I work collaboratively with clients, rather than giving advice or homework. Therapy doesn’t have to be serious all the time; I’m told by clients I’m easy to talk to, and there's definitely room for humour in sessions!

While talking is important, sometimes words alone can't explain our experiences or help us connect with them. I also use gentle ways to help you notice how experiences are felt in the body. This is entirely guided by you and doesn’t involve any physical contact from me.

I draw on simple approaches that can help make sense of relationships and what’s happening in the present moment. I only use these tools if it feels helpful for you.

Practical Information

I hold a diploma in therapeutic counselling and am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have an enhanced DBS check and full professional insurance.

I regularly update my training and am currently studying a post graduate diploma in depth psychotherapy.

What’s happening in the world can feel heavy right now; I want to state explicitly that I strive to provide a space that is welcoming and inclusive.

A Little More About My Training

I’ve completed additional training in:

  • Gestalt therapy – focusing on your thoughts and feelings in the present moment

  • Transactional analysis – understanding patterns in relationships

  • Focusing – connecting with how experiences are felt in the body so they can be more fully processed

  • Trauma therapy & Rewind – an approach that can be helpful for PTSD

These approaches are gentle and always tailored to what might feel useful for you.
